BETC

Bristol Endoscopy Training Collaborative was created in 2021 with the goal of providing an enriched learning environment for endoscopy in the South West of England. BETC represents a collaborative project launched by University Hospitals Bristol and Weston, Southmead Hospital (NBT) and InHealth Endoscopy (Prime Endoscopy Bristol). BETC provides a new training resource for UK endoscopists and trainees focusing on basic therapeutics, and simulated endoscopy training/scenarios.  Get in touch to find out more about what we are doing and how we can help you prepare for your future in endoscopy.

South West Endoscopy Academy Created

The Covid-19 Pandemic has seriously impacted already strained traditional training structures. Novel models of endoscopy training are needed for the future. There is an appetite from trainers and trainees to identify new models of endoscopy training.  As a result of this and to take the opportunity of the challenges that we face, we how now seen the creation of an Academy structure across all 4 nations to develop models that could include:

  • Creating ring fenced endoscopy placements within specialty training programmes.

  • Reviewing basic skills course delivery to assess e-learning components and the learning objectives to ensure they are of value.

  • Considering other systems of training delivery such as immersion training.

Congratulations to Dr Paul Dunkley on his appointment as Director of the South West Endoscopy Academy.

New Wet Lab Course in the UK.

The BETC team have been working hard throughout COVID-19 to realise our goal of providing a new Wet Lab endoscopy course in the UK. Our aim is to support the South West Training Academy by improving access to high quality endoscopy training in a variety of modern forms to future proof the UK's endoscopy workforce. Our first course date has now been confirmed as the 25th November 2021. We will be running two courses side by side, encompassing LGI polypectomy, and UGI haemostasis skills. We cannot wait!

Welcoming Our First Delegates with the Support of Pentax.

We are proud to thank Pentax for their support in helping us realise our goal of delivering BETC on to the endoscopy training landscape. They have kindly agree to supply stack systems, consummables, and other adjuncts for the wet lab courses. They are also supporting the Basic Courses (including Introduction to Trans-nasal Endoscopy) being run out of Prime Endoscopy Bristol. Thanks guys!
